Abdelasie (15 ½) is in Jordan since July 2014. In Syria, he was recruited into a paramilitary group to fight against the regime of Bashar El Assad. He fled the war, and the group, with his mother and sisters. However, in Jordan, he was arrested for belonging to that group. His father is still in Syria as a fighter. His mother is in school at the University of Amman. « Life in prison was difficult at first because as a Syrian, I was isolated from the others. But with time, it is getting better. Now I participate in the activities set up by Tdh. I really like the group games. There are more activities since Tdh is here. Currently I am waiting to be tried. I do not know long it will take. I want to go home and be with my family. »

Nourdin (14) has been at the center for 9 months after being arrested for murder. He was playing with a loaded gun that went off, killing a passerby. He is currently awaiting trial. In Jordan, a murder conviction is 7 years. His family visits him regularly. « My favorite game at the detention center is "caught fish /fish catcher" and I also like math classes. Life in the center is going well. Sometimes there are conflicts between us, but we try to find a solution to our problems with Tdh animators. When I get out, I want to return to school. »
Rashid (15)—this is the 4th time he’s been to the center. The first time, he was in a fight with his brother. He was arrested because his parents complained about him but not his brother. The second time was because he had drugs on him. The third time was after being accused by a girls’ family for attempted sexual abuse. The fourth time, he was driving a car without a license and ran over someone near a school. He says it's because of his friends that he gets himself into situations he cannot control. « I do not like the center, life or the idea of detention. In Jordan, the probation period is 10 days, however it depends on the judge. » His family does not visit because his parents are angry with him. « My hope after leaving the center is to try to return to school and to pray more.
